Prime Minister Rutte was present today at Memorial Day at the American cemetery in Margraten. This is the annual commemoration of the soldiers who gave their lives for the liberation of Europe. More than 8,000, often young, American soldiers are buried in Margraten.

Clock church Melick is silent for homes
Church attendance continues to decline, which is why 75 churches have had to close their doors in the past thirty years. Of those 75, 24 have been demolished. The 51 churches that are still there have or will be repurposed as residential or commercial space. This is evident from figures from the Diocese of Roermond. The Sint Andreaskerk in Melick – the only church in the village – will also be given a new purpose. So the ancient bell there will never ring again.

Special consecration in cathedral
At a time when the churches are emptying, it is a very striking choice: dedicating your life to God. Two Limburg women were ordained virgins in the Sint-Christoffel cathedral in Roermond last night. It is the first time that this happened in the Diocese of Roermond.
