9-year-old Gino still missing
The police have sent an Amber Alert because of the disappearance of a 9-year-old boy from Kerkrade. Gino van der Straeten was last seen in a playground in Kerkrade on Wednesday evening. The child is in life-threatening condition, police said. A helicopter and drones were used in the search. There are also flyers distributed in the area. In vain for the time being, 9-year-old Gino is still missing.

Suspect had a conflict with Xavier Durlinger for some time
A long-lasting conflict between some young people may have led to the death of Xavier Durlinger from Sittard. The 19-year-old local resident who is detained in the case had been arguing with the victim for some time. That battle is captured on image and sound. This is apparent from material in the hands of L1 and also from conversations with those involved.

Yad Vashem award for Panning’s couple
The Israeli embassy awarded the Yad Vashem award posthumously on Thursday morning to the couple Kersten-Van Nienhuijs from Panningen. The Dutch title of the award ‘Righteous Among the Nations’, Righteous Among the Nations. Matheus and Maria Kersten-van Nienhuijs provided a safe hiding place for a Jewish boy during the Second World War.

Heerlen tackles energy poverty
The municipality of Heerlen received ‘many thousands’ of applications for the 800 euro compensation for the high energy bill. Alderman Peter van Zutphen says that officials are doing everything they can to handle the applications within the set period of eight weeks.
