KZ still to play-offs, Green Yellow after loss to Blauw-Wit not yet safe in Korfbal League

Koog Zaandijk has qualified for the play-offs in the Korfbal League tonight. The Zaankanters defeated DVO convincingly 28-21 and saw competitor DOS’46 lose at LDODK (28-19). As a result, the team of coach Tim Bakker still goes to the play-offs with a ticket for the hall final on April 16 in Ahoy.

KZ opened strongly against DVO, which is already certain of the play-offs. Esther Cordus scored the 1-0 from the first attack. That turned out to be the prelude to a great first half. In the initial phase it went evenly until 9-8. Then the home team distanced themselves. Anouk Haars in particular was in good shape. She hit five goals in the first half. Halfway through there was a pleasant 15-8 score on the scoreboard in top sports center De Koog.

In the second half, Bakker’s team kept DVO at a distance. The difference never became less than four points (22-18). Meanwhile, the Koogers knew that LDODK was doing its sporting duty against DOS’46. DOS’46 was not allowed to win, because otherwise KZ would still have had no chance, based on a worse mutual result. KZ closed the game against DVO with a 28-21 victory. LDODK defeated DOS’46 28-19.

In the best-of-three series, KZ will meet Fortuna, just like last season. The team from Delft ended the championship group as the winner by beating 22-18 in the top match PKC.

Blue-White – Green Yellow

Blauw-Wit had already maintained their position in the Korfbal League last Tuesday, but not yet opponent Groen Geel from Wormer. The team from Amsterdam opened the score via Momo Stavenuiter, after which he missed a penalty. After that it was mainly Green Yellow that struck the clock. Daniel Harmzen’s team went into the dressing rooms with a 10-7 lead.

In the second half, thanks to Stijn Hoekstra and Martin Coevert, the visitors initially walked further away. Thanks to a run of six points (13-12), Blauw-Wit regained the initiative. Although Green Yellow struggled quite a bit, Blue and White pulled the win and Green Yellow suffered a 19-17 loss.

Competitor KCC defeated TOP 18-17, making the latter club the third direct relegation from the Korfbal League. Next week, Groen Geel will play against KCC for direct enforcement. If that game is not won, the team is sentenced to play-down games. Last month, the korfball players were just too strong for Groen Geel with 17-16.
