Kylie Waterreus has been part of Team Lotto-Soudal since this year. The cyclist from Ulestraten will therefore be wearing the same uniform as sprinter Caleb Ewan and former world champion Philippe Gilbert.
Waterreus already feels right at home at Team Lotto-Soudal. She especially likes the professional approach of the team.
Valuable for the team
Waterreus immediately proved its value for the team in the first races of the year. In the opening classic Omloop het Nieuwsblad she belonged to the leading group for a long time. In the end she finished in 80th place at just over 5.5 minutes from winner Annemiek van Vleuten.
Very nice girl
The 23-year-old cyclist is not only an asset to the team in the sporting field. Team mate Mieke Docx indicates that Waterreus is a very pleasant girl who creates atmosphere in the team. But Docx also sees an added role for Waterreus in the race: “Thanks to her experience, she can give the young riders of our team directions and tips. I think she can be a good road captain for us.”
To wave
Waterreus enjoys that she now rides around with a shirt known in cycling circles. “I have the feeling that everyone is waving at me, even during training. Of course I am waving back to everyone,” she says with a wide grin on her face.
men’s team
In the past, Waterreus rode for several years with smaller Belgian cycling teams such as Team Multum Accountants and Health Mate – Cyclelive Team. In the autumn of 2021 she signed a contract for Team Lotto-Soudal. Although the women’s team is independent, it is related to the men’s team.
