Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova won the grass tournament in Berlin and positioned herself as one of the favorites for the Grand Slam classic at the All England Club (from July 3).
The Czech won the final at the LTTC “Rot-Weiss” against the Croatian Donna Vekic 6:2, 7:6 (8:6). It was Kvitova’s 31st career title and her first win on grass since Eastbourne 2021.
On Saturday, the 33-year-old successfully completed a double shift. The quarter-finals were postponed after the continuous rain on Friday, first Kvitova prevailed against Caroline Garcia (France/No. 3), then the ninth in the world rankings also defeated the Russian Ekaterina Aleksandrova in straight sets.
The unseeded Vekic was also successful twice on Saturday, but could not crown the week in Berlin with her fifth title.
Jelena Ostapenko celebrated in Birmingham. In the duel of the former French Open winners, the Latvian prevailed against Barbora Krejcikova 7: 6 (10: 8), 6: 4 and prevented another Czech victory on Sunday.
