KV Oostende beats Zulte Waregem after a crazy finish

Black smoke and banners at the home supporters. Everyone dressed in black. Owner Paul Conway is the understandable head of jut. KVO does get the first chance: Berte aims over. On the other side, Zulte Waregem is really dangerous: Traoré chooses the farthest corner and finds the post.

The public supports it. It is also support for KVO player Mebude, who was in danger of dying after an accident. The people of Ostend will not let themselves be put aside. Henderson enters the box, looks for the one-two and blasts perfectly past Ortwin De Wolf. 1-0 after fifteen minutes, for Dapo Mebude. KVO in the lead.

Ostend can hold off Zulte Waregem quite well, but when Essevee threatens, the alarm bells go off. Vormer only scores in offside despite protesting. The goalkeeper had come out of his goal, which makes this correct. A little later there is a blast from Machado, Bossin falls flat.

KVO keeps coming anyway. Wylin looks for the back line and finds Perez, who is working wide. This could have been 2-0 halfway through the first half. That came a little later after poor defending at Essevee. Willen loses the ball to Berte. He passes to Perez and 2-0. KVO lives.

Just before half time, Zulte Waregem can improve the situation a bit. Machado, really doing well, is taken down in the sixteen. No doubt this is a penalty. Jelle Vossen does not miss the opportunity: 2-1 at half time, which suddenly looks completely different.

Essevee comes out of the dressing room pressing: Vormer with a low slider. KVO does not hold up under pressure for long. After just five minutes, Jelle Vossen, unmarked on the small back line, is able to head in the equalizer: 2-2.

KV Oostende groans and now has to rely on the clever counter. Mo Berte can do that. Leaves in own half with the ball. Just to the left, just to the right. The defender gives way. Berte ends up alone for the Wolf but on the goalkeeper.

A KVO fan can no longer hold it and does what you shouldn’t do. His team is still holding strong. Even more. Anton Tanghe is shown the red card when he hits Berte who has broken through. Protest by Tanghe but the ball goes on the spot. Vandaele takes the penalty but misses it. Downer for KVO, which misses out on the victory; so it seemed.

But the unbelievable still happens. De Wolf wants to throw the ball quickly, but KVO intercepts the ball. Berte doesn’t hesitate in the box and scores the 3-2. What an end to the match, what a turnaround. KVO still experiences joy on a chilly winter Sunday.
