KV Kortrijk saved mathematically. Bend or burst for Essevee and KVO
KV Kortrijk saved
KV Kortrijk played a 0-0 draw against Eupen on Saturday afternoon in the relegation topper. The Veekaa did not win a beauty prize in that competition, but it did win one point in the standings. The point that turned out to be necessary in hindsight to certainly play in the first division next season. For the sixteenth season in a row already. Apart from the G5 teams, no team is doing better in the Jupiler Pro League. That in itself is also a very strong achievement. Although there is a lot of homework for KVK. Sportingly, the core really needs to be supplemented to know less worries next season. Captain D’Haene stops anyway, offensively Kortrijk needs more scoring power and a few strong holders will be in demand on the transfer market.
After the results of this evening, it’s official!

KV Ostend bird for the cat?
At KV Oostende the spring seems completely broken. A draw or a win on the field of STVV, which in itself played an end-of-season game, could have rekindled hopes of rescue on the coast. But the opposite happened. KVO was simply led to the slaughter in Limburg and did not come with hope, but with a basket of goals against (5-0) and therefore back to sea in sack and ashes. Just like last week, where Ostend was already 0-3 behind at home against Standard after 20 minutes, it turned out that the core hardly believes in it anymore. Mathematically it is still possible, if Ostend takes 6 out of 6 against OHL and Ghent. And if Eupen doesn’t take more than 1 in 6 against Essevee and Club Brugge. But who still believes in that? The future of the club is also uncertain. Will there be other investors? Can Ostend keep its head above water financially? Dark clouds have been gathering over the Diaz Arena for a while… Unless KVO miraculously straightens up and takes that golden three-pointer against OHL (which has nothing left to win).

Duel Eupen – Zulte Waregem
No, the duel for the last safe place in 1A seems to be one between Eupen and Zulte Waregem. The two teams in the acute danger zone that come out mentally and sportively best in the final sprint. However, Eupen has the best cards by far. It has four points more than the West Flemish. But… it’s still possible. And that should give Zulte Waregem courage. Essevee has been plagued by bad luck for two consecutive days. Hold out against Antwerp for 85 minutes, but still lose. And at Charleroi, ‘de Boeren’ had to swallow the 3-2 in the 96th minute.
And yet it is still possible. But, then a 6 out of 6 and a bit of luck is pure necessity. One advantage: next weekend Zulte Waregem can take a giant step itself because the calendar maker has planned a duel against Eupen on the penultimate matchday – oh coincidence. If Essevee wins in the East Cantons, it will approach Eupen by one point. And on the final day, provided there is a new win at home against Cercle, it can still bounce over Eupen. Eupen, who goes to Club Brugge on the final day, which itself absolutely has to win to have a (you) chance at PO1.
But it could also be over next Saturday ‘am Kehrweg’. In case of a loss of Zulte Waregem, or a draw. Trainer Fred D’Hollander had better get his players mentally and physically ready for a duel to the death. And why wouldn’t the club put in a mass of supporters buses for a weekend in Eupen? It’s now or never for Essevee.
