Kurt Cobain’s cigarette pack is up for auction

A pack of cigarettes costs around 1,600 euros – at least that much money has to be paid for Kurt Cobain’s unopened American Spirit pack at auction. That’s exactly why it’s now being described as “perhaps the most expensive pack of cigarettes of all time”.

Under the title “Played, Worn, & Torn: Rock ‘N’ Roll Iconic Guitars And Memorabilia”, the auction house “Julien’s Auctions” is auctioning off some of the artist’s possessions, who died in 1994. In addition to a pair of jeans that the Nirvana member wore in the music video for “Heart Shaped Box” and his Skystang I stage guitar, that same pack of cigarettes is also for sale.

“This box was kept by Cobain’s roommate at the Los Angeles rehab facility where he spent a few days before taking his own life,” the official description explains the item’s origins. American Spirit menthols were probably “the late rock star’s preferred brand,” according to the auction house. The current offer is 1,750 US dollars, or around 1,600 euros.

This is not the first time that Cobain’s belongings have been auctioned off. After the Fender Mustang guitar model, which the artist smashed on stage during Nirvana’s first US tour in 1989, was sold in 2022 for more than 400,000 pounds (460,000 euros) – twice the original estimated value – his also arrived in May 2023 destroyed black Fender Stratocaster under the hammer for almost 600,000 US dollars (around 550,000 euros).
