Kuopio Palloseura’s 100th anniversary match could not have gone better, as the team defeated Veikkausliiga league leader HJK 2–1 on their home field.
KuPS Joona Veteli took the home team into the lead in the 18th minute of the game, but Klub Top Middle equalized right at the end of the opening period.
He scored the game-winning goal at about the 80th minute Saku Savolainenwhose diving header hit the back corner and drove the home crowd wild.
With the win, KuPS rose to 10 series points. The club, which suffered its first loss of the season, is still at the top of the league with 13 points. In second place is SJK, who beat Inter 2–1 on Friday.
IFK Mariehamn, the Jumbo of the Veikkausliiga, is the only team without a win. On Friday, the team left Vaasa with a 1–2 loss. VPS took a 2-0 lead in less than an hour. Jamie Hopcutt narrowed it down to 1–2 from a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
IFK Mariehamn has collected one point from five matches.
