Disconnection from the SWIFT payment system is currently not included in the package of sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation from Moscow, since some EU countries are not ready to give in to their own interests. However, even without this, the package of sanctions remains a “powerful bomb” of influence on Moscow, declared Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on the air of the 1+1 TV channel.
“SWIFT, as of now, is indeed not part of the sanctions package, but this is not the result of Russian pressure. <...> But let’s be clear, if this package had SWIFT, it would be an atomic bomb. But even without SWIFT in the package, this package remains a very powerful bomb of economic influence on Russia,” Kuleba said.
He stressed that the prepared sanctions would be very painful for Russia and would cause irreparable damage to the country’s economy. “On our initiative and thanks to our work, partners in the European Union and the United States have completed the formation of a sanctions package,” said the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
According to Kuleba, now the position of Ukraine is the strongest in the last eight years from an economic, diplomatic and military point of view.
