Kroten-Krielen derby has everything; remarkable goals, fireworks and red card

Amateur clubs Spartans and SEW are only two kilometers apart, but the derby is not often on the program. Last Sunday the teams met in the third division. “The battle between Nibbixwoud and Wognum is one that has lasted decades,” explains SEW trainer Jeroen Slaager.

Spartans goalkeeper Ronald Schouten made a mistake at 0-1 and boxed the ball into his own goal. Thanks to two goals from his teammates and a final score of 2-1, he was able to breathe a sigh of relief afterwards. “Everyone wants to play a leading role in such a match, in a positive way. I am happy that the team has turned its back.”

The neighbors from Nibbixwoud had less reason to be happy. “This was a very frustrating match for us. We will have to hear the results for a few more weeks, but we can deal with that. After two beers we can put this defeat aside,” said a down-to-earth SEW captain Lars de Vrueh.
