Not everyone at Real Madrid knows well about Champions League opponents 1. FC Union. Toni Kroos can help there.
Toni Kroos already revealed a thing or two about opponent 1. FC Union Berlin to his colleagues at Real Madrid after the Champions League draw. The ex-national player reported this in the podcast “Einfach mal Luppen” with his brother Felix, who once played for Union. The Bundesliga club will be in Madrid for the start of the group phase on September 20th and will welcome the record winners in the last preliminary round game on December 12th in the Olympic Stadium.
“I was allowed to warn a little about Union,” said Toni Kroos and said that there had been inquiries about the draw on Thursday evening last week. Union was a term, also because the former real professional Isco was about to move to the Berliners in winter.
“The way has already been sought to me here,” said Kroos. “People asked what kind of team, what kind of football, in which stadium. Most of them have somehow played in the Olympic Stadium before.” For the home games in Group C, which also includes Italy’s champions SSC Naples and Sporting Braga from Portugal, Union moves from the Alte Försterei in Köpenick to the much larger Olympic Stadium.
“Basically, we were all relatively fine with the draw,” said Kroos. The 33-year-old world champion from 2014 was also satisfied with the fairly comfortable and short trips for his team in the group stage.
