Hollywood star Kristen Stewart (32) will be the president of the jury at the next Berlinale. This was announced by the festival on Friday.
The next Berlinale is increasingly focusing on stars! After it had already been announced that star director Steven Spielberg (75) would receive the Honorary Golden Bear for his life’s work, the next Hollywood name was announced on Friday.
Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”, “Personal Shopper”) will be the festival’s jury president (February 16-26). Stewart is considered one of the most successful and coolest actresses in international film.
“We are delighted to have won Kristen Stewart for this outstanding task,” says the Berlinale management duo Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian. “She is one of the most talented and versatile actors of her generation. From Bella Swan to the Princess of Wales, she has brought unforgettable characters to life. Young, aspiring and with an impressive body of work behind her, Kristen Stewart is the perfect link between the US and Europe.”
Kristen Stewart made her screen debut in 1999 at the age of nine. Only three years later she starred opposite Jodie Foster in David Fincher’s “Panic Room” and already gained greater fame. Her international breakthrough came with the 5-part “Twilight” saga (2008-2012). In 2010 she was a guest at the Berlinale with the independent production “Welcome to the Rileys” (director: Jake Scott). That same year, she received the Orange Rising Star Award for Best Young Actress at the BAFTAs.
The jury president of the last Berlinale was the director M. Night Shyamalan. The last woman to hold the post in 2019 was French actress Juliette Binoche.
