Krista Pärmäkoski chose a very surprising car: “Teenager Krista is back”

The skier switched to an electric car.

Skier Krista Pärmäkoski made a surprising car choice.

– It is silent and accelerates quickly. Teen Krista is back, when I’ve moved back to a small car after the family car years, comments Pärmäkoski.

The athlete has a partnership agreement with a car dealership. Pärmäkoski chose Tesla as its go-to game.

Electric cars are not the most common solution for people living in southern Finland who accumulate continuous long drives.

On Thursday, Pärmäkoski leaves his Tesla from his home in Kuortane towards Lapland, because you can ski in Ylläki, Levi, Luosto and Olos, among others.

– You have to stop to charge a couple of times. Let’s see how far we can go.

The charging challenge is a significant reason why skiers who drive to Lapland a few times a year do not want an electric utility bill.

– My spouse Tommi Pärmäkoski previously switched to an electric car. He got from Kuortane to Helsinki without recharging during the trip. When the prices of petrol and diesel are horribly high, I wanted an electric car too. My rides are mostly pretty short. These longer runs are exceptional.

With Tesla, an athlete who used to drive around in a station wagon, among other things, has to settle for a smaller transport space than his previous models.

– It’s harder to drive a smaller car. When there is no longer a dog, I can fold down the back seats and carry stuff there.

Pärmäkoski’s animal friend passed from time to eternity in the spring winter of 2023.

New teammate

Another change in the skier’s everyday life is that he has a “teammate”.

Manager Aki Pajunoja will help this season in addition to Pärmäkoski Niko Anttolaa.

– I asked Niko about it. He doesn’t really have words, Pärmäkoski laughs.

Junior talent Anttola is a quiet and stone-faced athlete.

– I guess they have talked to each other. It’s nice that Aki has gone to help a potential athlete.

In 2011, Pärmäkoski was in a somewhat similar situation to Anttola’s now: his resume includes junior success and his first adult WC relay medal.

What advice would you give Anttola?

– Head cold. One should not speculate too much on success and what it might bring. You should focus on doing. The result and success will come with it, Pärmäkoski answers.
