The Kremlin, commenting on the statements of actor Gerard Depardieu about the hostilities in Ukraine, said that the actor does not fully understand what is happening there, because he is not immersed in the political agenda, and the Russian side, if necessary, is ready to explain the situation to him.

“Since it mentions the president, I would suggest that Depardieu most likely does not fully understand what is happening, due to the fact that he is not completely immersed in the political agenda. He does not understand what happened in Ukraine in 2014, he does not understand what the Minsk agreements are, he does not understand what Donetsk and Luhansk are. He hardly understands what the bombing of civilians is, he hardly knows about the nationalist elements. If necessary, we will be ready to tell him all this and explain it so that he understands better, ”Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Depardieu, who received Russian citizenship in 2013, criticized the military operation in Ukraine in an interview with AFP, calling it an unacceptable “stunt” by leaders “like Vladimir Putin” for which the Russian people are not responsible.

In early March, Depardieu called on Russia and Ukraine to negotiate.
