For 15 years, the festival “Jamel rockt den Förster” has stood for “democracy and tolerance”. Now, for the first time, a metal band has performed as a headliner. Kreator were on stage on August 12 and frontman Mille Petrozza made it clear: “This is probably the most important festival in Germany”.
In addition to the thrash metal band from Essen, Deichkind, Haiyti, Thees Uhlmann and Mia Morgan also performed. Even if Kreator doesn’t fit into the line-up at first glance, Petrozza hopes that other metal bands will “be able to play at this wonderful festival” in the future. At the end there was also a joint photo with the organizers Horst and Birgit Lohmeyer.
Horst and Birgit Lohmeyer moved to Jamel from St. Pauli in 2004. Since then, more than 50 crimes have been committed against the couple. The village of Jamel has been specifically settled by right-wing extremists for years. In 2007, the mayor of the municipality of Gägelow, in the Northwest Mecklenburg district, said the following about Jamel: “We gave it up”. Horst and Birgit Lohmeyer have been opposed to this for 15 years.
Dangerous music
But they live dangerously. In 2015 there was an arson attack on the Lohmeyer premises. The couple’s home was almost engulfed in flames. Since then, the couple has gained tremendous support and the festival has grown in popularity. In recent years, Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte, Beatsteaks, Herbert Grönemeyer, Mia and Kraftklub have performed, among others.
