Former biathlete Krasimir Anev shot himself in the stomach with a handgun. The man had received a gun from the army where he had worked.
The police found the man on Wednesday evening around seven in western Bulgaria near the town of Kyustendil. Now Anev is lying in a coma in the intensive care unit.
Doctors are trying to keep the Bulgarian alive. The man’s condition is serious but stable.
Before Anev ended up with the gruesome act, he had published a cryptic message on Facebook in which he quoted the writer Pavel Vezhinov words: “Every betrayal starts with trust”. In addition, the man wrote “absolute truth” in the comment field.
It is not yet known whether Anev tried to commit suicide. The man has a six-year-old daughter, whose mother From Kristina Nacheva he got divorced a couple of years ago.
Anev ended his biathlon career in 2020. He participated in three Olympics and 11 times in the World Championships. The man did not win any medals at the adult level.
On the youth side, he is the under-21 European champion from 2007.
