Kraomschudden in Havelte attracts a large audience: ‘Good start to spring’

“Celebrating spring, that’s it!”. Duco Heun, chairman of the Holtinger Schaapskudde Foundation in Havelte, can look back with full satisfaction on the traditional ‘baby shower’, which was held again after two years of absence. With 346 lambs and a multitude of visitors, it was a first Easter day to remember.

During the maternity shake, visitors have the chance to get very close to the newborn lambs. Cuddling with lambs is not allowed, but feeding is possible. “Unfortunately, hugging is not allowed to prevent the spread of diseases,” says chairman Heun. It didn’t spoil the fun on the Holtingerveld today. Children could have their faces painted, look for eggs and have fun with a bouncy castle. Foundation chairman Heun calls the excellent Easter day a good start to spring. “This puts us in a good mode.”

In two weeks the sheep herd will leave the sheepfold of the Holtingerveld and the lambs there will also have disappeared. Even then, a visit to the sheepfold is worth it, says Heun. “We have built an entrepreneurial cage during corona time,” he says proudly. “This new reception room replaces the old coffee room we had.”
