Kosovo and Serbia settle conflict over border traffic

Kosovo and Serbia bring conflict over border traffic to ANP

Serbia and Kosovo have settled the conflict over identity cards when crossing the border. EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said in a statement on Saturday. Both sides, represented by President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Albin Kurti respectively, had failed to reach an agreement during talks in Brussels earlier this week.

The agreement means that border traffic between the two countries will be released. Belgrade is waiving the introduction of entry and exit documents for people with a Kosovar passport and vice versa, no forms need to be filled in anymore. “I am pleased that we have found a European solution to simplify travel between Kosovo and Serbia. That is in the interest of all residents,” said Borrell.

The cold is not completely out of the air, however. Kosovo, independent since 2008, wants to oblige the Serbs in the country to drive around with Kosovar number plates on their cars. The government in Pristina has suspended the measure until the end of this month. Serbia is in trouble. Borrell said he expects Kurti and Vucic to take a pragmatic and constructive approach on this license plate issue as well.
