Kortrijk shows Minister Somers how projects boost living together in diversity
The workshop is part of the ‘Roots’ project, with which the city of Kortrijk wants to tackle the division between cultures on the basis of culture. ‘Roots’ can count on financial support from the Somers cabinet, which has earmarked special funds for local authorities that want to boost living together in diversity. Kortrijk can use the money to expand and renew the project.
In ‘Roots’, young people are given the opportunity to sample various art forms in an accessible and enjoyable way. Mayor Ruth Vandenberghe: “We want everyone to feel welcome in our city and to have equal opportunities. Two years ago we already drew up a Living Together Plan with 50 concrete actions for this purpose. Our ultimate goal is that every citizen of Kortrijk can develop in our city and that our inhabitants live together with mutual respect and understanding. In addition to the government subsidies, we provide 50% co-financing with the city to make this a success.”
