Kortrijk renames Groeninge Abbey to Abby

The official opening of Abby is scheduled for September 2024 and is an important chapter in Kortrijk’s candidacy as Cultural Capital 2030.

The Kortrijk Groeninge Abbey – an exceptional heritage site in the heart of the city – will be given a thorough makeover and a new name. With ‘Abby’, the historic abbey will be transformed into a vibrant, accessible exhibition site for visual art by September 2024.

“The next milestone in our path towards the new museum is about to start: the announcement of the name and logo. With Abby we show that we dare to deviate from the classic image of a museum. We dare to look at things differently. We dare to be ambitious with the exhibitions that Abby will bring. And as alderman of culture, I can say with certainty that this will be a solid step in our road to Cultural Capital 2030,” says Axel Ronse, alderman for culture in Kortrijk.
