The action group that fights for the preservation of the train station in Kortrijk collected more than 2,000 signatures and 300 letters of objection against the demolition of the station building on Open Monument Day in September. They think the old building is too valuable to demolish for a new station.
The building from 1957 is a rare example of a classic modernist station and should therefore be preserved, they believe. Kortrijk station is the last preserved reconstruction station after the Second World War.
