Hertha trainer Tayfun Korkut wants to give his injured central defenders Niklas Stark and Jordan Torunarigha enough time to regenerate during the Bundesliga break.
“At the end of the two weeks we want to have all the players in a state where I have to decide who plays against Bochum,” said Korkut on Monday. When the Berlin Bundesliga club lost 4-1 to FC Bayern on Sunday, both defenders were absent due to ankle problems.
Korkut therefore called up the teenagers Linus Gechter (17) and Marton Dardai (19) in the defense headquarters.
Despite the difficult week with the cup knockout in the derby against 1. FC Union (2: 3) and the clear defeat against Munich, Korkut does not classify the situation at Hertha BSC as fundamentally precarious. “We will continue to work on what we started from day one. The steps are small, but they are made,” said the 47-year-old.
“We won’t be blown away by the week,” Korkut promised. During the final training session on Saturday, several Hertha fans stormed the pitch and expressed their dissatisfaction with the recent performance.

Before the Bundesliga break, the Berliners remain in 13th place in the Bundesliga table with three points ahead of the relegation place until the next game on February 4 against VfL Bochum.
“It’s not the first club I’ve taken on in a situation like this. You have to be vigilant and keep a close eye on everything. Despite everything, calm is also important and belief in what we are doing,” said Korkut, describing the situation.
