Korean sunscreen is a summer hit

Many beauty influencers have fallen in love with Korean sunscreens.

Korean sunscreens, which have already been annealed in the world, have also begun to attract interest in Finland.

Estenomi A snare for Fredman Korean sunscreens are not a new acquaintance. He has been using them since 2016. At the same time, Fredman became generally interested in Asian cosmetics. He has written on the subject in his book Perfect Skin – A Guide to Korean Skin Care.

In sunscreens, Fredman was fascinated by the texture he describes as thin and pleasant. In addition, more detailed product labeling, for example on the protection factor, was attracted in the products.

Before that, Fredman’s experience with sunscreens was the same as many others. In Finland, it is customary to use creams that are thick and stumpy.

– They also had to be applied too little on the face, because the cream itself was already so thick.

Sunscreens have a long history in South Korea, known for its advanced cosmetics industry. Sunscreens are an everyday part of everyday Korean makeup. Product development takes time and effort to make them as comfortable as possible on the face. Few products also leave a white film on the skin.

In Fredman’s opinion, the reason why sunscreens are not so popular in Finland is due to a different beauty ideal. Finns want to tan, while in South Korea light skin is glorified.

The country also has a very different approach to skin care.

– There skin care is prevention. Finns are not interested in similar perseverance, but skin problems are only corrected when they are born, Fredman points out.

Not only protects but also cares

In the United States, Korean sunscreens are already a hit. At TikTok, beauty activists have declared the sunscreens of certain brands the best in the world and shared tips for use.

Fredman wouldn’t say Korean sunscreens are better than Western ones, but they are different in their user experience.

The purpose of cosmetic products is to create an aesthetically pleasing result, but the health of the skin is equally important. Founder of Yeppo, a company selling South Korean products Elisa Ahonpää-Kim says it is important for Koreans to keep their skin youthful and radiant.

While the products smooth the skin and reduce pigment spots, sunscreens also treat by moisturizing and repairing the skin. According to Ahonpää-Kim, several creams contain probiotics, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.

Because sunscreen is part of the daily routine of Koreans, the creams have been made as light in composition as possible. However, there is a range. Some are gel-like, some are creamy. Others come with a hue, some are sticky products.

However, Korean sunscreens are gaining a foothold in Finland. Content producer and influencer Valtteri Sandberg is one of the biggest names in Finland, which is interested in Korean skin care. He has launched two K-Beauty products, the latest of which includes sunscreen.

Sunscreen the best anti-age product

Finland is used to looking at the SPF factor for sunscreens. It measures how well the user is protected from UVB radiation, which specifically burns the skin.

Doctor of medicine Zion Lamm says In Allurethat Korea not only protects the skin from burning, but also focuses on looking at UVA radiation, which ages the skin. Its protection factor is marked on the products according to the PA scale. Roughly, therefore, it can be distinguished that SPF tells of immediate effects, PA long-term effects. Sunscreen can prevent premature aging.

Virve Fredman thinks it’s good that sunscreens also protect against UVA radiation.

The PA scale measures how long it takes for protected skin to begin to tan when compared to unprotected skin. The + signs following indicate the effectiveness of the protection. Each + sign corresponds to a number that indicates how long it takes for the skin to start tanning compared to unprotected skin. The more + signs, the longer the skin stays protected.

Lamm points out that the PA scale is not completely gap-free. Not everyone’s skin tans in the same way when exposed to the sun. Thus, it is not possible to know exactly how long the protection it provides will last for different people on the basis of the PA label.

It is worth remembering that sunscreen is to be added during the day. Ahonpää-Kim gives one piece of advice:

– If you put something on your face in the morning, see that it is sunscreen.

The lightness of the sunscreen makes it easy to add the cream during the day. Also on makeup. In addition, Korean sunscreens often have a pleasant scent.
