In Nice, Ransford Königsdörffer surprisingly fell through the medical check. Now he spoke about the broken change for the first time.

A burst change and a quick restart: For Ransford Königsdörffer, things have been turbulent in the past few days. Actually, he should sign after the medical check at OGC Nice – but then the French club reported with doubts.

“I was surprised,” said the HSV striker looking back. In his three years in Hamburg, he was hardly injured, which he also explained to those responsible in Nice. He also added not to be able to understand the decision. “We didn’t get a denominator,” Königsdörffer summarized the situation together. “Whatever you have found, I’m healthy, I’m fit. Maybe you have fell in love with.”

In the meantime, the 23-year-old had not actually expected the original interest from France. “I was surprised that a top European club like Nice made me an offer.” His teammates would have been happy for him at first, but were also happy about his return, said Königsdörffer. Some would have pushed him, others just said that it was nice that he was back.

Apparently it didn’t work without any teasing: “When we were sitting to Mallorca on the plane, it was said that I could have had the weather that we will have in Nice every day.” The HSV is currently completing its training camp on the Balearic Island.

How things will continue for Königsdörffer is unclear. The club does not want to let its most valuable player (market value: 6 million euros) go in the coming summer. This fits: In the run-up to the change of change with Nice with Nice, HSV sports director Stefan Kuntz had tried to extend the contract until 2026. The negotiations are now likely to be resumed.

“I am open to everything,” said Königsdörffer, “so open to extend.” If a new offer comes, he wants to think about it. “Two weeks ago I would not have thought of an offer from Nice, football is extremely fast -moving.” He didn’t want to rule out anything. A departure is still in the area of the possible.

Königsdörffer has been playing at the HSV since 2022 and came from Dynamo Dresden at the time. He achieved his final breakthrough in Hamburg last season. He scored 14 goals in 32 league games and prepares three more. At the end of the season he rose to the Bundesliga with the “red pants”.
