Kölner Haie remain at the top of the DEL

Thanks to a strong final third, the Kölner Haie also won their second game of the season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and maintained their lead in the table.

The eight-time champion beat ERC Ingolstadt 4:1 (0:0, 0:1, 4:0), and after the first weekend the optimal result was six points.

No other team is still free of losing points. Defending champion Red Bull Munich could have followed suit in the evening, but lost to Adler Mannheim 3:4 after a penalty shootout (1:0, 1:2, 1:1, 0:0, 0:1). Matthias Plachta ensured Mannheim’s victory.

Like Cologne, the Schwenninger Wild Wings also celebrated their second success and clearly dominated the Iserlohn Roosters. The guests prevailed on Sunday at Seilersee with 7:2 (5:0, 1:2, 1:0), seven different goalscorers scored.

Andrew Rowe gave Ingolstadt the lead in Cologne (30th), but the KEC turned things around in the final third – and the game. Louis-Marc Aubry (49th), Gregor MacLeod (54th), Nicholas Bailen (56th) and Andreas Thuresson (58th) scored the goals. MacLeod was involved in three goals.

“The power play was decisive, five against five it was a game of equals,” said Haie coach Uwe Krupp: “Today you saw what we are made of.”

The Eisbären Berlin won 3:2 (1:0, 1:1, 1:1) at Düsseldorfer EG and also have two wins. On the other hand, the hosts still have zero points in their account. Before the game, DEG announced that goalkeeper Henrik Haukeland’s contract had been extended by six years until 2030.
