Kobel celebrates BVB colleagues: “He does it outstandingly”

Gregor Kobel was satisfied and happy on Sunday evening. In the 6-0 thrashing of his BVB against VfL Wolfsburg, the goalkeeper was able to distinguish himself several times and thus keep his box clean. After the 90 minutes, the Borussia Dortmund keeper also knew who he still had to thank.

From a strong team performance by BVB on the 31st matchday, defender and captain Mats Hummels stood out alongside the two double goalscorers Jude Bellingham and Karim Adeyemi.

The 34-year-old was wide awake in the positional play, clearing away several attempts by Wolfsburg to attack with consistent tackles and the usual superior header. The 2014 world champion also showed a brilliant performance when it came to building up the game, sport.de gave Hummels a grade of 1.5 for the masterful performance.

High praise from the BVB keeper: “Outstanding central defender”

BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was full of praise for the man in front, who won 73 percent of his duels before he was substituted in the 63rd minute: “Mats played very well. He’s doing outstandingly this year. It’s certainly not always easy, if you don’t play every game. But he’s always there for the team. He’s an outstanding central defender,” said the Swiss about the Dortmund veteran, whose future with the Black and Yellows has not yet been clarified beyond the summer.

As far as speculation about a possible farewell or even the end of the defender’s career is concerned, team-mate Kobel kept a low profile after the 6-0 win against Wolves: “Mats is old enough, he can decide for himself whether he stays.”

Mats Hummels is playing his fourth season at Borussia Dortmund after returning from Bayern Munich. In the current season, he played a total of 27 of the possible 31 games in the German football league and scored his first goal of the season in the penultimate home game against Eintracht Frankfurt (4-0).
