KNVB: stopped game played at 12.00 next day | Dutch football

Matches in professional football that are permanently discontinued are, in principle, played the next day at noon. The KNVB says that this cannot be any other way, because there is ‘little time to do that at a later time’ in the coming weeks.

For example, the play-offs for promotion / relegation start three days after the last round of the Kitchen Champion Division, according to the football association. “And all league matches must be played before the international window that starts on June 12.” In this international period, the Dutch national team will play in the final round of the Nations League.

Normally, the professional football league board has several options: play out, overplay or the intermediate score becomes the final score.

FC Groningen’s last home game will also be played in an empty stadium

The KNVB decided to tighten the rules a few weeks ago, after Ajax player Davy Klaassen was hit on the head in the cup match with Feyenoord by an object thrown from the audience. Since then, a game has been stopped if something comes onto the field from the stands. If this happens again, the game will be stopped. If a player or referee is hit, a strike will follow immediately.
