KNVB punishes Ajax after stopping Classic: fine and F-side empty during Vitesse

The KNVB must leave the F-side empty during the league match against Vitesse on Saturday, November 25. The football association decided this following the chaotic Classic at the end of September. Ajax must also pay a fine of 25,000 euros.

The Classic was permanently stopped after 55 minutes on Sunday, September 24, because fireworks were thrown onto the field twice from the stands. After the match, riots broke out outside the Johan Cruijff Arena. The main entrance to the station was destroyed by angry supporters and the Mobile Unit (ME) had to intervene. Two police officers were injured and several supporters were arrested. Three supporters received prison sentences of between three and four months.

F side empty

The KNVB does not punish Ajax for what happened outside the stadium, but only for what happened during the match. The football association is not responsible for order outside the stadium. Ajax is being punished for lighting fireworks before the match and throwing torches onto the field twice.

The penalty for this is that sections 125 to 129 must remain empty during the home match against Vitesse, because the torches were thrown from the F-side.
