Knokke-Heist: “architectural competition for thorough renovation casino”

Years ago, the then municipal council came up with a prestigious plan, but neighbor protests and a stock market crash put a stop to that. The Grand Casino of Knokke wins prizes. Spa has the oldest Casino in the country, Brussels the largest, but Knokke receives the award for the best casino in Belgium.

The city council now finally wants to tackle the building. The high-profile design by architect Steven Holl had previously been brushed aside. Now a resolute choice has been made to preserve and renovate the current 1930 building designed by the architect Leon Stynen.

In the meantime, the environmental impact report has been completed and the spatial implementation plan is being drawn up. Works should start in 2025.
