Knockout for Remi Lindholm’s penis problem: “A man of that age knows”

Expert Reijo Jylhä explains what Remi Lindholm and Kerttu Niskanen’s freezing problems are about.

Remi Lindholm, 25, penis froze for the third time in two years in a skiing competition. On Sunday, a skier’s penis froze during the 20 km free co-start in Ruka, Kuusamo.

– A man of that age knows why the genitals exist. It should be protected, says Iltalehti’s skiing expert Reijo Jylhä.

Male skiers could wear underpants intended for severe freezing temperatures, but Lindholm wore boxers and underpants under his ski suit on Sunday.

– There are good egg pants. They should be used, Jylhä reminds.

Another Finnish skier who often suffers from frostbite problems is Kerttu Niskanen.

On Sunday, he moved from the track directly to the indoor facilities for treatment procedures.

– When it comes to protecting yourself from the cold, the most important thing is clothing. A person needs to recognize how sensitive hypothermia is. It is officially when the body temperature drops below 35 degrees, but for others, a very small reaction causes the muscles to tremble, Jylhä explains.

Niskanen shakes and shakes very often in the media interview area after competitions. On Saturday, after Ruka’s traditional kimpti, he said he was freezing because he was wearing wet pants.

– It’s a pretty simple thing to fix: how do you protect yourself from frost and wind. For example, in Sunday’s race there was a long descent where the speed was over 70 kilometers per hour. Then you have to know how to dress appropriately.

Ski fiasco

The women’s 20 km race was a disaster for the Finns. The best was in 28th place Vilma Ryytty. Krista Pärmäkoski (31st) and Kerttu Niskanen (32nd) collapsed.

– It was a really small winning competition. Finnish maintenance manager Heikki Tonteri raised his hand as a sign of error. Hard frost and finely divided snow have often been challenging conditions for Finns.

On the other hand, skis also made a big difference: Ryytty and Lindholm, who skied on Salomon’s poles, were the best Finns on Sunday.

– It is possible to differentiate between certain conditions and weather where different ski brands are strong. Salomon’s free ski is at its best in such tough conditions.

It was 15–18 degrees below zero in Ruka on Sunday at the time of the cross-country skiing competitions.

Despite the dressing and penis problems, Lindholm skied handsomely to 12th place on Sunday in Koillisma. At his best, he was in 11th place in the World Cup.

– It was good skiing. Remi was in the game all the time, could handle the increase in speed well, and was never in yo-yo mode.

Iivo Niskanen it was thirteen. The last time it went better in the Freestyle World Cup competition was in March 2022, when the host of Pohjois Savo was tenth in the 15 kilometer race in Falun.

– Iivo stayed in the race for a surprisingly long time. In the last two 2.5 kilometer laps, it was clearly visible that the muscle froze, and he could no longer start moving from the top of the climb, Jylhä analyzed.

The three-time Olympic champion will miss next weekend’s World Cup competitions in Jällivaara, Sweden.

– Jällivaara’s track profile is such that it’s a wise decision to stay out.
