KNMI warns with code yellow for strong gusts of wind

Strong winds are expected this evening. Heavy wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour can cause unsafe situations, for example on the road.

The KNMI has issued code yellow for the whole of the Netherlands. In Drenthe, the peak of the strong wind is expected between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Wind gusts are short-lived gusts or wind gusts of at least 50 kilometers per hour. From wind force 9 we speak of a storm, the wind force expected tonight is around 5-6. So there is no storm.

Code yellow is called to remind people that they have to be careful when they go out. There is a risk of nuisance during outdoor activities, such as sports, events in tents, and recreation. A walk in the woods becomes a lot more exciting when large branches come down. In addition, there is a risk of damage to houses and buildings, for example due to roof tiles blowing away and hitting unsuspecting bystanders on the head.

Heavy gusts of wind can also affect traffic. Cyclists, trucks and cars with trailers or caravans in particular must be careful not to be blown over.
