KNMI warns of code yellow due to thunderstorms on Liberation Day

On Liberation Day, code yellow will be in force from approximately 2 p.m. in the afternoon, the KNMI reports. The warning is given because thunderstorms are expected, with wind gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

There is also a small chance of hail and a lot of precipitation can fall in a short time, says the weather institute. The warning code is in force throughout the country, with the exception of the Wadden Islands. The showers will disappear in the west of the country from the end of the afternoon, in the east it will be mid-evening.

RTV Drenthe weatherman Roland van der Zwaag previously indicated that there could be rain showers during Liberation Day.

Code yellow means there may be a chance of dangerous weather. These are weather situations where it is advisable to pay attention, especially if someone is on the road. The KNMI advises against people entering open water or open areas, such as meadows. During thunderstorms it is advised not to shelter under trees and to stay away from high points.

Road users are advised to drive more slowly and to keep a greater distance from other traffic.
