The term ‘Knarrenhof’ is popping up more and more in many Dutch municipalities. But what is it exactly?
Knarrenhof stands for a residential concept that uses courtyards. In a Knarrenhof there is room for both owner-occupied and rental properties. Residents should definitely not be loners. The Knarrenhof is based on ‘looking after each other’ and ‘togetherness’. The umbrella foundation is a project developer, but residents from an area must come up with the initiative if they want to realize a Knarrenhof, as is currently happening in Paterswolde. According to initiator Jan Slangen, there is great interest in the Knarrenhof in Paterswolde. About 375 people have registered. Not everyone can just move into a house on the ‘hof’. Residents first talk to a selection committee to see if their lifestyle matches that of a Knarrenhof.
