Knack Roeselare writes downright volleyball history
Roeselare had already surpassed itself last week in its own Tomabelhal by sending Piacenza (the Italian cup holder) home 3-0. But the return in Piacenza was still waiting as an even more difficult task. Roeselare either had to win two sets or (in the event of a 3-0 or 3-1 loss) put everything on the golden set. And it has become the latter.
The Belgian league leader had to undergo the law of the strongest in Italy. Without a chance, Knack went down. Especially in the first set the difference was big: 25-17. In sets two and three, Roeselare played well and at a level. But Piacenza now played – compared to the first leg – also at the top level. And that turned out to be too high: 25-19 and 25-21.
But it happened in the golden set. Roeselare even came 10-13 ahead and then fully believed in it. The Belgian Cup winner got two match balls but only needed one: 12-15 and a historic qualification. The final of the CEV Cup is also a first and second leg. Out on March 29, back on April 5 at home in Roeselare. The opponent is called Modena. The number three in the Italian league (Piacenza is currently sixth).
