55-year-old Styrian
The day after Miroslav Klose was fired, Bundesliga bottom SCR Altach presented a successor for the German: Klaus Schmidt is returning to Vorarlberg and has been given a contract until the end of the season. The 55-year-old from Graz had already coached Altach in the 2017/18 season, but was fired by the then European Cup participants after a disappointing season that ended in eighth place (at ten clubs). Most recently, Schmidt was involved with league rivals TSV Hartberg, where he had to pack his bags during the winter break while he was bottom of the table.
Joachim Standfest, who last looked after the U18s of FK Austria Wien, will be his assistant again in the future. Standfest and Schmidt have already worked together at Admira.
Sports director Georg Festetics said of Schmidt’s return: “We are certain that Klaus Schmidt with his spirit is exactly the right coach for our team and that we will bring the season to a successful end together. The entire team and the entire club are challenged to subordinate everything to the goal of staying up in the league in the next ten games.”
The SCR Altach is pleased to present Klaus Schmidt as the new head coach. The Styrian takes over as coach in Rheindorf until the end of the season. Former national team player Joachim Standfest is his assistant coach!
