Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp thought for a moment that he had ended up at a funeral when he saw his players sitting in the dressing room after the draw against Tottenham Hotspur (1-1). “We need to stop acting like we’re at a funeral,” Klopp said. “That’s the mood. But we’re still just talking about football, things like that can happen. Frankly, much worse things have happened in my life and I’m still here. So we have to get over this.”
In the battle with Manchester City for the English title, the ‘Reds’ lost valuable points at Anfield. City could take a 3-point lead over Liverpool if they beat Newcastle United on Sunday. There are still three rounds of play in the Premier League.
“Of course we are disappointed, the boys more than me. That must have something to do with my age,” said Klopp. “But we just keep going. I can’t imagine it, but suppose City loses again. If we still miss the title because we no longer have faith, that’s not possible? It makes sense that the boys would one day disappointed, but then we will continue in good spirits.”
Liverpool will play against Aston Villa in the English league on Tuesday and four days later the FA Cup final against Chelsea is on the program. The ‘Reds’ close the Premier League with games against Southampton (May 17) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (May 22). On May 28, Real Madrid await in the final of the Champions League.
