Klinsmann continues winning streak with South Korea: Bayern’s Kim scores in win against Vietnam

Third win in a row

Jürgen Klinsmann achieved his third win in a row with the South Korean national team. In a friendly match in front of their home crowd, the South Koreans defeated Vietnam 6-0 (2-0) at the Suwon World Cup Stadium on Tuesday. The former national coach took over the selection of South Korea in February. He hadn’t managed a win with the team in the first six games, but recently there were three successes in a row against Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Vietnam.

South Korea was clearly the better team against the Vietnamese, who were 69 places lower in the world rankings. Defender Min-jae Kim from FC Bayern took the lead for the fourth-placed team in the 2002 World Cup with a header (5th minute). The other goals were scored by Hee-chan Hwang (27th), Minh Trong Vo (50th/own goal), captain Heung-min Son (61st) and Kang-in Lee (70th). Shortly before the end, Woo-yeong Jeong (86th) from VfB Stuttgart increased the score to 6-0. Vietnam’s Hoang Viet Anh Bui was also sent off with a yellow-red card for foul play (61′).

Before the match, Klinsmann spoke of a good test before South Korea begins qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in November. The 59-year-old’s first big goal is to win the Asian Championships in Qatar with South Korea at the beginning of next year. In Group E the team is favored against Bahrain, Jordan and Malaysia.
