The tenth edition of the Klimduinrun in Schoorl started today. Dozens of athletes climbed up as quickly as possible, barefoot in the mud. A hefty task with a gradient of up to 25 percent. “On your marks and start”, the starting gun sounds and then: ‘acidification, pure acidification’.
The participants of the Klimduinrun are looking forward to it despite the bad weather. What exactly does the run entail? “Run like a goofball on the sand, madness, that’s what we’re going to do.”
Up the mountain as quickly as possible, that’s the goal. “It’s a hugely fun competition, which really doesn’t matter at all. It’s not an official athletics part, but you can see it in all the athletes out there, they are all looking forward to it, despite the bad weather today,” says Richard Brouwer, race organizer.

Speeding up the mountain turns out to be quite difficult. “He is always heavier than expected,” says one participant of the race. “It’s just pounding, just pure power,” adds another athlete.
The age of the participants also varies enormously. A young participant enthusiastically says: “That you can just put your claws in the sand and then just climb up.”
