The end does not justify every means. Henning Jeschke (22), one of the best-known heads of the climate blockers “uprising of the last generation”, received a fine from the district court yesterday for attempted coercion.

The student of political science (“I live from child benefit and donations”) was accused of taking part in a road blockade on Seestraße (Wedding) early in the rush hour on June 24, 2022.

While the police were able to force his comrades off the road, he managed to glue his left hand down with superglue. And thus one of the lanes to be closed for the heavy rush hour traffic at the time (BZ reported).

“That’s correct. I glued myself,” he confessed. But: “We can’t do nothing.”

The judge showed understanding: “I am a mother. I don’t care about the environmental problems either.” But closing the entire lane restricts “many other people’s right to freedom”.

The court sentenced him to a fine of 200 euros (20 daily rates of 10 euros each) – 400 euros less than the penalty order against which he had appealed.

Henning Jeschke fought back tears: “There is no better way than to take to the streets to change something.” And he announced: “I will do the same thing again.” The verdict is not yet final.
