Klenkerweg between Sleen and Oosterhesselen closed for bridge replacement

The Klenkerweg near havezathe De Klencke between Sleen and Oosterhesselen will be closed due to the first activities of the Nieuwe Drostendiep project.

Work is underway to replace the Boksloot culvert bridge. Due to the poor condition, the bridge will already be replaced before the larger Nieuwe Drostendiep project starts in 2023. The municipality of Coevorden had requested this. Work has been going on since last Monday.

The diversion for traffic between Sleen and Oosterhesselen is indicated by signs. The work should be completed in November. “Because we want to limit the nuisance in the area, we have combined the work with the construction of the culvert in the Nieuwe Drostendiep”, says project leader Robert Eekers of the Vechtstromen Water Board.

Modifications to the Nieuwe Drostendiep are intended to combat drought and ensure that water is collected during downpours and high water. In this way, the water board wants to limit the consequences of climate change in Southeast Drenthe for agriculture and nature.

Together with farmers in the Drostendiep Initiative group and with the province of Drenthe, the water board and nature organizations will carry out the work in the Drostendiep stream valley next year.
