Klarna lays off 10 percent of its employees

The payment service provider Klarna is changing its organizational structure and laying off 10 percent of its employees. The dismissal affects employees in all areas, Klarna announced on Monday.

The affected employees should be informed about their dismissal in the next few days. In Europe, they receive a severance payment from Klarna. Outside of Europe, “the process for the affected employees will look different depending on where they work,” said Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski.

When the company drew up its business plans for 2022 in the fall, “the world looked very different than it does today,” says Siemiatkowski. “Since then we have seen a tragic and unnecessary war in Ukraine, a shift in consumer sentiment, a spike in inflation, a very volatile stock market and a probable recession. All of this has marked the beginning of a very turbulent year.”
