Klaas Dijkhoff: still no interest in leading the VVD list

VVD prominent and former party leader Klaas Dijkhoff maintains that he is not interested in leading the VVD list, he said at Op1.

The question of who will become leader of the VVD has been open since Mark Rutte said on Monday morning that he would not seek re-election. Dijkhoff was long mentioned as a possible successor to Rutte, but left politics in 2021 because he was ready for something else.

Dijkhoff’s name is now also appearing in the lists in the media, including those of the panels of EenVandaag and RTL News. That didn’t change his mind. “For me personally, how I want to be a father, for example, cannot be combined with the image I have of what a prime minister should deliver,” he summarizes the reason.

Dijkhoff says he has made his choice to no longer be a full-time politician. He does not expect to change his mind for the time being, certainly “for the next fourteen years”.
