The two kittens that were found in oil at the beginning of May under a roller coaster in the Efteling have found a safe home. Efteling employee Steven Groen from Breda found one of the young kittens in an oil bowl under Joris and the Dragon. The other had hidden itself under the stairwell. After a great adventure and a big cleaning, the Kittens Joris and Edna, named after the attraction, have been with him since this week. “They are busy growing and playing,” he says.
“After a few days they are already reasonably used. They are healthy, eat well and are busy growing and playing,” says brand new owner Steven.
It was quite a job to get Kitten Edna, named after the dragon of Joris and the Dragon, who gets that bad day at the beginning of May. “We were busy with the start -up in the morning and checked everything around the track. I heard Gemiauw under the elevator and I went looking. She turned out to be in the oil lane of the roller coaster,” Steven looks back.

“The container is not very deep, but a small animal cannot just stand out. She shot away every time, but with the help of colleagues I was able to pull her out of the container. She was under oil and vibrated completely.”
The animal ambulance came to pick up the kitten. “I immediately indicated that I wanted to adopt her. I grew up with cats and had four so I knew what I started,” he says.
When Steven went home after his work, his colleagues found a kitten under the stairwell of the Joris and the Dragon. “That turned out to be her brother. They were placed in the shelter together and later brought to a foster family to socialize,” says Steven.

In the animal shelter the kittens are washed several times, because the smell of oil lingers for a long time. “But you don’t smell anything anymore and they are well clean,” says Steven. “They are also healthy. In the beginning, Edna still had some oil in her stool with the foster family, but she is no longer bothered by that.”
“Pathetic to take them apart, they have experienced a lot.”
According to the animal shelter it was the best option if the kittens were adopted together. “It would be pathetic to take them apart. They have already experienced a lot. It was better for the animals to adopt them both and it is better for my furniture, because they can play together now,” laughs Steven.
Just like in the amusement park, the Efteling employee finds a fairy tale how he got his critters. He enjoys them to the full. “Joris is very affectionate. Edna a little less, but he also comes to lie with me. They are especially very curious animals.”
