Kittens dumped in closed garbage bag: ‘Cruel and unnecessary’

The animal ambulance found three abandoned kittens on Tuesday morning. The kitties were in a sealed gray garbage bag. They were found at the intersection between Heesterseweg and Bedrijvenweg in Geffen. Sandra van de Rooij of animal shelter Maasland does not understand it. “It’s crazy anyway.”

The animal ambulance received a report from the three kittens on Tuesday morning. “The animals were found in the morning by a woman. She didn’t return home until the evening and then we picked up the animals,” says an employee of the Animal Ambulance.

After the animal ambulance had collected the cats, they were taken to Maasland Animal Shelter. There they are cared for by Sandra van Rooij. “They’re doing well. They just eat and drink. So that’s nice. They are impressed, but that is not surprising of course.”

“They don’t have anything special because they got dumped.”

In the search for a new home, these kittens simply end up in standard procedure. “The kittens are first taken care of by a host family at the shelter. They are then examined, vaccinated and microchipped by a vet within two weeks. Then we will look for a new owner.”

Sandra finds the search for a new owner a bit exciting and that is not because no one wants the kittens. On the contrary. “We are a little scared. Everyone wants to give these kittens a home, because there is this story behind it. People just forget that they need the same care as other cats. They have nothing special because they were dumped.”

“This is totally unnecessary and cruel.”

It often happens that kittens are dumped. Yet this dumping is different. “We often receive kittens that we suspect have been dumped, but this is exceptional. That kittens are found in a sealed bag.”

Sandra thinks it is very unnecessary that kittens are dumped in this way. Even if you can no longer take care of the kittens yourself. “When people find a kitten somewhere, they can just call the ambulance and they will not ask if it is their own kitten. What they do now, put it in a sealed bag somewhere, is completely unnecessary and cruel. Any shelter would take kittens in even if they are 99.9% sure that the reporter is actually the owner This is just crazy.”
