Kitten found in shoebox in bushes of Uithoorn: “Clearly deliberately dumped”

An employee of the municipality of Uithoorn found an abandoned kitten yesterday. The animal was locked in a shoebox, which was placed in a shopping bag. “Anyone who does this is wrong,” says Miriam Bosman of the De Ronde Venen-Amstelland animal ambulance.

According to Miriam, the kitten was found by someone from the Uithoorn municipal yard, which is involved in waste collection. The employee saw the shopping bag in the bushes near the youth meeting place on Amsterdamseweg and decided to take a look at it.

Upon opening the shoebox in the bag, the employee discovered the gray and white kitten, estimated to be six to seven weeks old. The find was reported to the police. The kitten was ‘clearly deliberately dumped’, according to the Animal Police, which has therefore started an investigation.

‘Just report’

“Imagine if that municipal employee had not looked in the bag, he would now simply be dead,” Miriam sketches a doomsday scenario. She says that the kitten will be medically examined and then a new home will be found.

She hopes that it will become clear where the kitten came from. “Just report,” she urges the owner. “People so often come to us for help because, for example, they cannot afford veterinary costs.” The Animal Police asks people with information about the kitty to contact them.
