Matt Damon, U2 singer Bono and bassist Adam Clayton released the documentary “Kiss the Future“ presented at the 73rd Berlinale. Damon served as producer, along with Ben Affleck, on the documentary about U2’s role during the Yugoslav war. The band supported the Bosnian underground scene and in September 1997 gave a concert in war-torn Sarajevo. The Slovenian Nenad Cicin-Sain directed the film. Tickets for the performance on Tuesday (February 21) in the Verti Music Hall are available here.
During the Bosnian War, the rock and punk movement lived on and was understood as a form of resistance. U2 were made aware of this and started supporting them. The documentary is about the role of music and art as a weapon. “We all use music to protect ourselves,” Bono said in addition to the Berlinalepress conference. And further: “There was war in Sarajevo, you were right in the middle of it. And they used music as a shield against dark forces.” Finally, on September 23, 1997, the Irish gave a concert in front of 45,000 people in the Bosnian capital.
Matt Damon will also continue to document the war. He announced that he would like to make a documentary about the war in Ukraine, more details are not yet known.
