On Sunday, Jyväskylä’s Kirittäret took another shot at the Finnish baseball championship. Kirittäret beat the women of Manse PP on their home field 1–0 (12–5, 4–4).
The key to the win was the hosts’ wild first period.
Kirittäret showed the spirit of the game in his first inning, when Emma Körkkö hit the ball through from the second side. Ella Korpela and Kati Tanhua ran home, Körkkö went around the municipality himself.
The performance had the home team in a tizzy, and the runs came like a conveyor belt. Also Venla Karttunen hit the municipality. Kirittäret already led the game 7–0 after the first inning.
Manse got his engine going in the second inning, when the team scored three runs and went up 4–10.
However, Jyväskylä could not find a stopper. Kirittäret won the opening period with a score of 12–5.
The second period started with the people of Tampere in the lead, as Manse went up Kirsi Ala-Lipastin and Sara-Ella Kemppaisen municipalities to a 4–0 lead.
Kirittäret put the gas to the bottom and leveled off. Manse missed his chance for a super inning, as the home team’s 3-4 run came from a stray throw.
The game ended when Tinja Töyrylä was about to hit the booth, but the ball dropped and Susanne Ojaniemi brought in the tying run.
There were plenty of successes in the ranks of the Jyväskylä people. Körkkö hit 1+2 runs and brought in three. Karttunen marked two brought in and 1+3 hit. Korpela’s balance was four brought.
Kirittäret leads the final series with a 2–0 victory.
Three mounts are required for the championship. Kirittäri has a chance to secure the gold next Saturday in Tampere.
