Kira Toussaint finishes just outside the podium during the European Championship in 50 meters backstroke

Kira Toussaint just failed to win a medal at the European Championship long track in Rome. The backstroke specialist from Assendelft was fourth in the 50 meter backstroke.

With a time of 27.73, Toussaint was 0.19 slower than Maaike de Waard, who took the bronze. For De Waard it was already her second medal at the European Championships. De Waard previously won bronze in the 50-meter butterfly. Two years ago, Toussaint crowned himself European champion in the 50 meter backstroke.

Luc Kroon failed to qualify for the final in the 200-meter freestyle. In the semi-final battle, the Volendammer did not go further than seventh place.
