Former Germany Under-21 international Orestis Kiomourtzoglou (24) is set to move from Heracles Almelo to Heart of Midlothian FC. As “Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg reports and Transfermarkt can confirm, the defensive midfielder will sign a contract in Scotland until 2025. A transfer is expected shortly, only small things are still missing to finish. Heracles is said to receive a fee of 400,000 euros for the native of Munich, who has been with the club since 2019.
Back then, Kiomourtzoglou moved from his training club SpVgg Unterhaching to Heracles, for whom he made a total of 82 games (four goals/one assist). After his market value reached a personal high of 1.5 million euros in the meantime, it went down to currently 800,000 euros. Heracles finished 16th last season and failed to stay in the league through relegation. In March, the TM rumor mill linked Werder Bremen to Kiomourtzoglou, who later spoke to Transfermarkt about his interest in him, but did not name any clubs. When asked about a possible change in the summer, he simply said: “In the three years at Heracles I have developed both as a person and as a footballer, that was a great step.”
At Heart of Midlothian, Kiomourtzoglou now expects games on the European stage for the first time in his career. Although the Scots lost to FC Zurich in the Europa League playoffs, they will start in the Conference League. Friday’s draw saw Fiorentina, Basaksehir and FK RFS as their group stage opponents.
